I gained 25 pounds my first year working as a Registered Nurse. I ate to keep myself awake on the night shifts.

I mastered eating a meal in less than 3 minutes because a full lunch break wasn’t really a thing.

Staff potlucks were a weekly event, it seemed. Here was another chance to graze all night on food that wasn’t exactly vegetables. 


Sleeping during the day wasn’t easy for me, either, leaving me with no energy to cook something healthy or pack my own lunch to work.


I also didn’t have the motivation to exercise. I felt like a zombie. 


Needless to say, it's no surprise that my weight added up pretty quickly. My mental and physical health declined just as rapidly. 


I soon realized that although I was in the healthcare industry, I was not the model of healthy living. I needed to change some things and turn my bad patterns of eating and exhaustion into better habits that were sustainable. realistic and supportive of my overall health goals. 


I lost the weight without dieting and have kept it off for over 20 years by incorporating healthy habits and patterns. 


I’ve also learned that hating myself into change doesn’t work. That, just like you, my shape, size and weight doesn’t determine my value as a human being. Searching for the perfect body sucks all your energy away because there is

no such thing. Comparison is the thief of joy. 


I love you regardless of your appearance. 

Just like you, I have one body in this life.


I want to take care of mine.


I have found that the most enjoyment comes to me when my body can help me experience the best that life can offer. 


It's a symbiotic relationship — I take care of my body and it takes care of me.
